Insurance & Billing

Medical Services (with the exception of the SEAR program) can file claims with most health insurance plans. If you are unsure of if your insurance is in network, we recommend checking with your insurance and providing your insurance with a PWHC providers' name. All of our providers can be found on our Medical Providers Directory (i.e. GYN (Women's) Clinic Providers and Primary Care Providers). Our psychiatry providers can be found on our Psychiatry Provider Directory

*Medical Services at Pat Walker Health Center can only accept Arkansas Medicaid. If you have Arkansas medicaid insurance, please have your primary care physician send a referral to the Pat Walker Health Center on your behalf prior to your appointment. This will allow the billing process with insurance to run more smoothly. For more information and resources, see the Arkansas Department of Human Services website

If you do not want Medical Services to file with your insurance provider, let us know at the time of your appointment.

Patients are financially responsible for all charges incurred during each visit, whether covered by insurance or not. Your insurance company may determine that some, or all of the charges incurred at the health center are not covered by your policy or should be applied to your deductible. While costs may vary for patients, most health plans must cover a set of preventative health services for all adults, women, and children (i.e. blood pressure screening, some immunizations, pap smear for women 21 to 65, and more). Patients are encouraged to contact their insurance carriers to obtain coverage information.

Patients who do not have insurance, or choose not file with insurance, will receive a self-pay discount. Note: You cannot change to insurance billing at a later time if you choose self-pay.

*The self-pay discount does not apply to certain STD testing as those charges have already been discounted and are not subject to further discounts.

If you have questions, you can contact the Billing Department via phone at 479-575-4451, option 6. Should you need to fax something directly to the Billing Department, you can fax 479-339-8962. This fax number should only be used for billing related faxes. If you have a Medical Records request, please view our Medical Records page for how to submit a request and for the Medical Records fax number.

Payment Options

Medical Services is cashless and can accept payment by Apple Pay, Google Pay, VISA, MasterCard, American Express, Discover, or Razorbuck$. If you are a student, all charges after your co-pay will be put on your UAConnect account. If you are faculty or staff, you can pay via the Patient Portal or charges will be added to Workday after your insurance has been processed.

Good Faith Estimate

You have the right to receive a “Good Faith Estimate” explaining how much your health care will cost.

Under the law, health care providers need to give patients who don’t have certain types of health care coverage or who are not using certain types of health care coverage an estimate of their bill for health care items and services before those items or services are provided.

Counseling & Psychological Services

Almost all of CAPS services are included in the Student Health & Wellness fee and they include:  initial consultations, short-term individual counseling (if recommended), group therapy, case management, 24-hour mental health emergency services, referral services, outreach services, and mental health consultations. Assessment services, if recommended, are not included in the Student Health and Wellness Fee. Please ask your CAPS provider for information regarding assessment charges, if applicable.

CAPS’ Missed Appointment & Late Fee

There is a $20 no show/late cancellation fee for missed appointments or appointments not canceled by 4:00 p.m. the workday before your appointment. If you receive a missed appointment or late fee at CAPS, the fee will be billed to your student UAConnect account. Please call CAPS at 479-575-5276 if you have any questions.

Student Health & Wellness Fee

The University of Arkansas requires all enrolled students to pay a mandatory health and wellness fee of $8.07 per credit hour. This fee supports Counseling & Psychological Services (CAPS), Medical Services, and University Recreation in their efforts to offer a variety of  health, safety, and wellness initiatives, programs, and resources for the campus community.
