Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) offers psychiatric services for a range of mental health concerns, including depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, and ADHD, among others. If you need information about starting or continuing ADHD medication, click here (link to ADHD tab).
For students experiencing a mental health concern other than ADHD and who are interested in medication, a clinical consultation with a CAPS counselor may be recommended. Research shows that for some people, counseling and medication work equally well at treating psychological disorders though in some cases the effects of counseling last longer than medication after it is discontinued. In many cases, a combination of medication and counseling is the most effective approach for treating psychological disorders. A one-time consultation with a counselor costs nothing for enrolled students and may help clarify your concerns and the best approach for treatment.
If you have been prescribed a medication for a psychological disorder by a doctor in your hometown and wish to transfer your care to CAPS, call (479) 575-5276 to make an appointment. Alternatively, you may continue to see your regular doctor when you go home (or may see a doctor locally) and can have your prescription filled at Walmart on Campus.
